The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games an adventure fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins and published in 2008. This book is banned in many school districts across the country because many parents find the book to be too violent for their children.

The book is about a strong young women named Katniss, who's younger sister is chosen to go into the Hunger Games this year, but Katniss wasn't going to let that happen, so she volunteered as tribute for her sister.  Katniss is entered into the games with a young man named Peeta for district 12 and must battle other tributes from the remaining districts in an arena to the death. Katniss must fight for her life and ends up making a love connection with Peeta. The audience watching the games back home falls in love with their story and pushes to let two people win the games this year. Katniss and Peeta make it home safe, but the game makers are not happy. And Gale Katniss's love interest from back home is wondering, what is happening? Your left on the edge of your seat and must read the next book to see what other trouble Katniss finds next.

• How do you like Katniss will pick Peeta or Gale?
• What do you think the consequences will be for Katniss, tricking the auidence?
• Do you think our world may ever to come to the Hunger Games?
• How you do think the games will affect Katniss once she is home?

Motivational Activity:

•  Have the students create their own Hunger Games story, but with a different arena and alternative ending and share it with the class.
